Medical Release Policy

The health and safety of all participants is a top priority of Martinsburg Misfits. This Medical Policy outlines procedures and expectations related to injuries, illnesses, and medical emergencies during team activities.

Emergency Medical Authorization

In the event of a medical emergency where a parent or legal guardian cannot be reached, Martinsburg Misfits coaches or authorized representatives are permitted to obtain emergency medical treatment for the participant.

Every reasonable effort will be made to contact the parent or guardian as soon as possible.

Medical Information Requirement

Parents or guardians are responsible for providing accurate and up-to-date medical information for their child, including:

  • Known medical conditions

  • Allergies

  • Medications

  • Emergency contact information

Failure to disclose relevant medical information may increase risk and limit the program’s ability to respond appropriately.

Injury & Illness Response

  • Coaches will stop play when an injury is suspected.

  • First aid will be administered as needed.

  • Players showing signs of injury, illness, or distress will not return to play until cleared by a parent, guardian, or medical professional.

  • For serious injuries, emergency services will be contacted immediately.

Concussion & Head Injury Protocol

Any player suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury will be removed from play immediately and will not return until written medical clearance is provided by a qualified healthcare professional.

Martinsburg Misfits follows recommended youth sports safety guidelines for concussion awareness and management.

Insurance Responsibility

Parents or guardians acknowledge that Martinsburg Misfits does not provide individual medical insurance coverage for participants unless otherwise stated.

Parents or guardians are financially responsible for all medical expenses incurred due to injury or illness.

Medication Administration

Coaches and volunteers are not authorized to administer medication to players, except in cases of emergency (e.g., epinephrine auto-injector) and only with written parental authorization.

Return-to-Play Clearance

Players may be required to provide written medical clearance before returning to participation following injury, illness, or extended absence due to health concerns.
